Forming without changing mechanical properties
A new process makes it possible to form tungsten-based round bars with a 63% degree of deformation. The result is lengths of up to 720 mm instead of the previous maximum of 320 mm, at a diameter of 10.5 mm. At the same time, material loss from final machining shrinks to a quarter.

As part of a research project, Gesellschaft für Wolfram Industrie mbH has developed a non-cutting manufacturing process for heavy metal round bars that makes the use of materials more sustainable. Thanks to an iterative rotary swaging and annealing process, it reduces material consumption and also shortens machining time.
