For over 110 years, Wolfram Industrie has specialized in producing tungsten for welding technology. Our products and services are still market leaders today. With "Digital Wolfram" we carry this tradition forward and add a digital assistance system for uncompromising manufacturing quality.

Digitalization in welding has long been seen as difficult to implement. Especially in TIG welding, solutions were mostly limited to collecting and storing data – leaving a critical gap: the ability to detect process deviations early or even correct them automatically. With the Digital Wolfram Expert System, real-time monitoring, evaluation, and autonomous intervention become available in a truly integrated way.

Extensions & Modules

An optional extension is a spectrometer developed specifically for arc welding. It enables both qualitative and quantitative analysis of plasma composition – directly during welding and in real time.

The device can be integrated into the Digital Wolfram System or operated as a standalone measurement solution. Data is captured via a fiber optic cable (up to 80 m), making it suitable for both stationary and mobile welding applications.

The analysis algorithms were developed fully in-house and can be customized. Arc spectrometry is already setting new standards in process monitoring.

Practical Application

The system has already been successfully used in three pilot projects and will be presented in a new version at SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN 2025.

Digital Wolfram Expert System – Digital assistance for modern TIG welding

"Digital Wolfram" is a digital assistance system for manual and automated TIG welding.

It combines three key elements of digital process control:

  • Data acquisition (current, voltage, arc length, speed)
  • Automated analysis and real-time feedback
  • Autonomous intervention, such as shutting down the process or adjusting parameters

The welder is relieved but stays in control – supported by a system that only intervenes when necessary.
